IBEW Local 702 has new Lead Organizer for Prairie State Generating Company

On Tuesday, February 14th, IBEW Local 702 Business Manager Steve Hughart appointed the Local’s President, James “Jimmy” Sanchez, to be the Lead Organizer for the Prairie State Generating Company (PSGC).

As the plant was built in the 2008-2012 time frame, there has been sporadic organizing activity since it went into service.  However, after reflecting on recent conversations, Business Manager Hughart has assessed the situation and believes now is the time to make this location the Local’s #1 organizing target.  Brother Sanchez’s only responsibility is to organize this facility, which will bring an increased standard of living for those who work there.

It is well known throughout our Local’s jurisdiction that our members enjoy an increased quality of life, as well as better wage & benefit packages, in addition to superior working conditions, and it is our objective to bring those aspects to those working at PSGC.

Local 702 represents over 440 IBEW members employed at 6 different coal-fired generating power plants in Indiana, Illinois, & Missouri.

For anyone working at the Prairie State Generating Company, we realize that the plant is operational 24 hours a day, and you may not have a “traditional” work schedule, but Brother Sanchez was present on site during the construction of the plant, and knows the geographic area well.  He is ready, willing, and able to meet with anyone at any time, with family members in attendance if possible, in order to answer your questions and explain in person the benefits that come with IBEW representation.

This Local stands ready to assist those working at PSGC and will do whatever it takes to bring you into the IBEW family!
