You might say linework and fishing just runs in his blood...

IBEW Local 702 member Brennon McCord had an eventful end of May, 2019.  He enjoyed a milestone that would have otherwised been a true highlight on May 22nd, when he topped out as a Journeyman Lineman in our Outside Construction branch.  While we are extremely proud of Brennon for this accomplishment, as we are all of our members, this event was completely overshadowed by what happened this past weekend...

Brennon comes from a family of Linemen and fishermen.  His father, Neil McCord, is a Journeyman Lineman at Ameren Illinois, and his grandfather Dave McCord is a retired Journeyman Lineman from our Local as well.  Both of them, like Brennon, prefer to dangle a hook in the water during their spare time.

On June 1st, 2019, Brennon was crowned Champion in the T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League All-American Tournament on the Potomac River.  Local stations carried news of the event, and a lot of our members' Facebook pages had the story plastered on their timelines, with many of them stating they had been glued to their television or smartphone screens the entire day or at least during weigh in.  The congratulations Brennon received stretched across all three States of our Local and covered many branches as well.  You see, Brennon's mom, Kelly McCord, is an Inside Wireman in our Local and supports Brennon in his efforts.

Brennon is enjoying his big win, which comes with a $100,000 check, but will possibly take the next year off to "fish the circuit" as a sponsored angler.  Regardless of his decision, we are proud of Brennon and wish him the best in all that he does.

Many that know Brennon are not surprised by his success.  As an avid fisherman, winning his first tournament with his father when he was just eight years old, he finished third in State during his high shool years as a Junior with fellow IBEW Local 702 member Gabe Jelly.
